How long the books sat on the shelf in the library is unknown.   Actually, no one really remembers how they came to be there. The pages were yellowed and the smell was …well, the smell of old books. But no one could throw them away. They were valuable. They were the Bible….in braille. The librarian had a heavy heart as she began to give away the books in the Library. You see, the church decided to close the library and use the room for offices. With internet and kindle, google and social media, the library was rarely used anymore. She asked us if we could use some of the books in Africa.   Of course, here they would be treasures. What about this braille New Testament? Why not? We might be able to find someone who could use it. That was about 6 years ago. No one can throw away a Bible so we kept the four volumes in a trunk. From Roots to Fruit

In this current world of globalization: such as Facebook, internet, digital...everything,cell phones, jets, etc.,  the world seems so connected. Yet deep in the bush, in remote villages of Northern Uganda and the new country of South Sudan there are tens of thousands of children who know only their surroundings and learn only what they live day to day.  As both of these countries have suffered decades of war, globalization is an unknown concept.  Is that a bad thing? Eleven years ago, Keith and I came to Uganda as the Lord had called us to do. We gladly left behind our country, culture, family, lifestyle, etc. As we look back over those years here in Uganda, there are too many events, relationships made and some broken, lessons learned, heartaches and heartbreaks, and joys and blessings, to count. But one thread has remained the same... The children. The children are the roots of the next generation.  What are they learning? What will they become? Getting down ...

Dear Facebook friends, For the last several years, we and the ministry in Uganda, have gone through many changes. That’s a very broad statement and all these changes are too many to explain, so let’s just skip down to the time we have been back in the United States. When we changed our residence from Uganda to Alabama in October of 2019, the call to create and develop Roots to Fruits Christian Curriculum (R2F) for African schools did not change. In fact, we believe that the Lord called us back so we could gain a larger team to work together to complete it and distribute it. At present, we work with the R2F Missionaries team in Uganda, who are Therese Macfarlane, Cathy Morris and Karen Odel. Also, the Ugandan teacher trainers for R2F, Joseph and Daniel. The team in the United States are the prayer supporters, financial supporters, and writers, Rachel Kolb, Kelly Kremkau, and the format/editor—Belinda Brown. We are asking the Lord to add more ...
